Laura and Fiberworks is a first time vendor at Road and will be in Booths 2005 and 2007 featuring fabric, patterns, quilts, threads and all manner of other cool stuff.
Personal: A native of Montana, this registered nurse gave up her full time nursing position to open her quilt shop in Billings in 1994 and has “never regretted it.” Laura is the mother of two grown children – daughter Jenna and son Brandon. Her best friend is a 2 year old Labrador, Hannah, who comes to work with her every day. When she isn’t quilting, Laura enjoys glamping— glamorous/luxury camping. She owns a pink 1956 Shasta trailer that she restored. She takes it on all travels that she drives to. That includes her upcoming vendor opportunity at Road to California. Look for her pink trailer in the parking lot of the Ontario Convention Center!!
How did you get started in quilting? I started quilting 28 years ago when I was expecting my first child. I took a quilting class so that I would be able to say that I’d made one quilt in my life. I figured once the baby came, my chance to quilt again would be lost! Since then, I have made countless quilts and gone on to be a fabric designer, teacher, author and thread designer.
What is your favorite quilting tool? How about product instead of tool? Mine would be Steam a Seam 2. Many of my quilts use fusible and this is the fusible of my choice.
What is your best advice for quilters? Do what you like, like what you do. You don’t always have to follow the rules.
Can you describe your quilt shop, Fiberworks? Fiberworks is a 6,000 square foot shop where talent, imagination and fun meets fabric, patterns, quilts, threads, and classes. It’s a community of fiber artists that includes those just starting out, those whose work proudly adorns Fiberworks’ walls, and a delightful rainbow of colors in between. It’s a “quilter’s heaven” where we invite friends and quilters to “…just bring your imagination.”
What will you be featuring in your booth? I have more of a modern flair. I have a large selection of patterns that I have designed and can only be found in my shop or on my website. My look is unlike any other. I am betting that visitors are going to get lost in my booth!
What are you most looking forward to on your first visit to Road? Meeting a whole new group of people! I look forward to the happy faces and the camaraderie that comes with quilting. I hope that I am totally exhausted at the end of each day!
